The number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Yazd province has increased by 20 and 55 percent respectively during the first three months of current Iranian calendar year (starting on March 20, 2008).
Announcing this on Sunday, the head of Yazd Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department noted that over 72,637 domestic and 11,259 foreign tourists have visited Yazd province during the said period.
Azizollah Seifi cited diversity of tourism-related advertisement, inauguration of eight traditional hotels and one hotel-apartment as the main factor behind the increase in the number of visitors.
Terming residential and housing units as an important items in tourism industry, he added the private sector has shown enthusiasm for making investment in this sector.
Seifi also expressed hope that the department could witness an increase in the number of foreign and domestic investments in different sections of the provincial tourism industry in near future.
