Vice President Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie said Sunday that Iran is pursuing the process of registering the Persian Gulf on the world heritage list.
"Global recording of Persian Gulf is in the proposal stage but the process has begun and we will follow up the issue at the international level," he said.
Mashaie, who is also Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, was speaking to reporters after attending celebrations to mark the registration of Damavand Mountain on the national natural heritage list.
He said to this effect, an international seminar will be held in cooperation with universities in Australia and America as well as Durham University in the UK.
He added, "We will have all parts of Persian Gulf registered. Collecting data and documentation is a very hard task but the big project has begun."
