Foreign companies line up for Iran’s third mobile operator bid

“Several companies from Russia, China, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Kuwait, and the UAE have offered their proposals for winning Iran’s third mobile operator bid,” the director of the international affairs department of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology stated on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 28th Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Study Group Meeting which is being held in Tehran, he stated that the foreign partners could not legally own more than 49 percent of the third operator’s shares.
Asking about the share of the government of the joint venture, Ahmad Pourangnia responded, “The figure depends upon proposals of the foreign parties and may be over three hundred million euros.”
The APT Study Group Meeting aims at discussing technical problems in the field of communications and information technology.
“Issues such as New Generation Networks (NGN), broadband services and future technologies, telecommunication, ICT strategies and policies, infrastructures and networks, application, operation and user issues will be also reviewed in this gathering,” he added.
Iran has been named the chair of the APT meeting for the next year
