Iran attends BIS summit

The 78th annual general meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) which was underway in Basel, Switzerland, wrapped up on Wednesday by releasing a performance report.
The three-day event which was attended by governors of 130 central banks from across the globe focused on the financial status quo of banks, boosting supervision on banking regulation, as well as global food and energy crisis and their effects on banks and financial institutions.,
Mr. Tahmasb Mazaheri, Iran’s Central Bank governor along with his deputy Mr. Reza Raei took part in the meeting.
The 78th Annual Report was presented at the Bank’s annual general meeting, chaired by Jean-Pierre Roth, Chairman of the BIS Board of Directors.
The Bank for International Settlements is an international organization of central banks which ""fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks."" The BIS carries out its work through subcommittees, the secretariats it hosts, and through its annual General Meeting of all members.
It also provides banking services, but only to central banks, or to international organizations like itself. Based in Basel, Switzerland, the BIS was established by the Hague agreements of 1930
